Horse riding – Lovely horse rides in the peaceful mérens: Plaine des Cafres, around the volcano, western highlands and Entre-Deux.
Walking – A thousand kilometres of signposted paths with varying levels of difficulty, including two Grande Randonnée itineraries.

Helicopter – Flights over the calderas and island.
4WD – Great panoramas of some calderas and the volcano.
Mountaineering, canyoning, white water sports
Good sites include the eastern rivers and calderas of Cilaos and Salazie. Information - Maison de la montagne de St-Denis and tourist offices.
Water sports
Deep-sea fishing – Best season: October-May. Departures: St-Gilles and St-Pierre.
Scuba diving – Several good sites. Clubs at St-Leu and St-Gilles.
Surfing – Best spots: St-Pierre, St-Leu and L’Étang-Salé. Morey and waveski surfing also possible.
Swimming – The beaches are public and equipped with coloured flags that indicate the safety level. Don’t swim in the lagoon in the five days following heavy rainfall or a cyclone.
Windsurfing – Spots: in the lagoon or outside for experienced surfers. Sharks possible at Baie de St-Paul and Jamaïque at St-Denis.
