After crossing the Plaine des Remparts, the volcano road opens abruptly onto the Plaine des Sables (2 260m). Two very unusual conical peaks emerge from the vast lunar expanse with its bronze and reddish reflections, which is lined on both sides by the vertical break of the rivers. There is a viewpoint indicator enumerating the various natural curiosities at Le Pas des Sables, to the right of the road before heading down into the plains.
