Tévelave is the gateway to the “great Les Hauts forest”, swarmed with island families on weekends. You can get there on the superb Tamarins Forest Road (RF 9) which starts near Les Fougères inn and connects with the Route du Maïdo (RF 8) about 30km to the north (allow 1hr). Various landscapes, trees and flowers can be seen all along the way, with some fine views of the coast here and there. There are numerous hiking trails for those eager to further explore this lovely “Bois de Coueleur” tropical forest.
