Bistrita (Bistritz) Travel guide
Bistrita (Bistritz) : Michelin's recommendations
The important city of Bistrita was founded by the Saxons in the 13C. Erected by local guilds, its fortifications include 18 towers and bastions (notably the Coopers’ tower). The Gothic cathedral (1470-1564) stands on the main square, along with the Sugalete, a range of 15C-16C merchants’ houses, incorporating a covered gallery under which it is pleasant to stroll. Note the statue of Andrei Muresanu, who composed the Romanian national anthem.
