Brasov (Kronstadt/Brassó) : Michelin's recommendations
This ancient mercantile city founded by the Saxons in the early 13C is Romania’s second city. Its cultural and economic peak was during the 16C when it became a major centre for Humanist thinking thanks to Johannes Honterus (1498-1549), who brought Lutheranism to Transylvania. The busy little streets in its historic centre are the ideal backdrop for a stroll; they converge on the peerless Council Square and the Black Church. Also worth seeing nearby are fortified churches and old fortresses.
