This prison evoking sad memories was in the post-war period the scene of the incarceration, torture and starvation of politicians, intellectuals and Catholic priests deemed enemies of the communist state. Its cells are today the backdrop for an interesting exhibition illustrating prisoners’ daily life, the history of communism, the resistance and dissidents... In the courtyard are poignant bronze sculptures, the “cortege of the sacrificed”, and a memorial to the 8 000 victims of the regime.
