Putna
: Michelin's recommendations
On the (Ukrainian) frontier road, this Bukovina village is worth a detour on account of its monastery, built in 1466 by Stephen the Great. Overlooking a valley, Putna has survived the ravages of time and is dear to Romanians as the burial place of Prince Stephen (beautiful tomb). Note the enclosed porch of its church, the earliest of its kind in Moldavia. In the nearby cemetery, the church of Dragos has wood miniatures.
