Bibendum

The late 12C Saxon citadel stands atop a hill, from which the name Segesvár, meaning “castle on a hill” was derived. The fortifications date from the late 14C, and encircle an upper town that was the domain of the nobility and bourgeoisie, and a lower town where workers and craftsmen lived. From Citadel Square, climb upwards along Fortress Street and Tower Street, lined by medieval buildings with gardens up to the summit, where stands the church on the hill.
