Târgu Jiu
: Michelin's recommendations
This town is primarily known for its “Brancusi promenade”, a monumental ensemble running along Calea Eroilor (1 653m) comprising four sculptures created by the great Romanian artist between 1936 and 1938. The Table of Silence, Chairs Alley, the Gate of the Kiss and the Endless Column are inspired by folklore themes dear to the artist. An old mining centre, Târgu Jiu is an architectural mix of traditional houses and neo-Brancusian buildings making for an austere yet bustling city centre.
