With its thick ramparts and square towers, this early-17C monastery is a veritable fortress, and differs from other such buildings in the region on account of the lack of fresco decoration on its stone walls. Its scale is also striking, especially its height (42m)... Inside, note the pictures in the naos where gold and ochre predominate, and the wood iconostasis. Don’t miss the manuscripts and missals in the museum, precious vestiges of the art of illumination once practiced here.
