The current monastic church was built in 1711 during the reign of enlightened humanist Constantin Brâncoveanu. It stands at the heart of an earlier monastery (14C), one of the most important cultural sites in the country. It was here from 1640 that the printing took place of books as important as the Pravila de la Govora (the earliest Wallachian legal code), and a book of psalms in Slavonic.
