Called the “father of Romanian painting”, this icon painter (1838-1907) absorbed Impressionism in Paris with Renoir and, following the example of Corot and Courbet, was part of the Barbizon School in 1861-1862. Painted in the open air, his landscape works seem to amplify the Romanian countryside. From Nicolae Grigorescu’s house in Câmpina, now transformed into a memorial museum, there is a fine view of the Prahova Valley.
