Begun in 1884, Carol I’s summer residence was not finished until 1914, several years after the king’s death. The architecture shows neo-Renaissance German influence. Wood, stone and precious materials abound in the castle’s 160 rooms. The décor is sumptuous: mosaics and carpets, wall paintings and tapestries, stained glass and woodwork embellish the variously styled rooms (hall, Moorish room, armoury, poetry room, council chamber).
