Known as the “Sistine Chapel of the East”, Voronet Monastery’s church is one of the Orthodox Christian world’s most beautiful buildings. It is covered in frescoes in which blue predominates (the famous and inimitable “Voronet blue”). Painted on the orders of the metropolitan Grigore Rosca in 1547, they include the Last Judgement on the west wall (note the Moldavian dress), the Tree of Jesse on the south façade, with portraits of philosophers of Antiquity, and Christ Pantocrator on the east façade.
