Nikolskaya Street, in Moscow’s oldest neighbourhood of Kitay-Gorod, has recaptured its attractive appearance and is now a pedestrian area featuring recently renovated neo-Russian style 19C buildings and luxury boutiques. TheMonastery of the Holy Saviour behind the Icon Row, whose name comes from an old icon market, as well as the Nikolsky Art Nouveau galleries and the Holy Synod Printing Offices, where the first printing office in Russia was set up in 1563, are reminders of the street’s commercial and cultural past.
