Pyatnitskaya Street is pleasantly lively thanks to its many cafés and restaurants. Lined with palaces and townhouses, and some wooden houses nestled in shady gardens, it has preserved its charm. Note at n° 12 a small Empire-style house, the annex of the Tolstoy Museum, and at n° 18 a lovely classical façade with colonnades that is all lopsided. The Tanzanian Embassy, a bit farther down at n° 33, occupies a small neo-Baroque palace with a spectacularly decorated façade.
