In the somewhat outlying district of Taganka, with its slightly countrified look, you can follow in the footsteps of several emblematic figures, including Andrei Rublev, the most famous of icon painters (don’t miss the museum named for him) and singer Vladimir Vysotsky, whose popularity has never waned in the quarter of a century since his death. TheAndronikov Monastery founded in the 13C is another must.
