This mansion belonged to the Romanov family until Mikhail Fyodorovich Romanov became the ruler of Russia in 1613, the first in a dynasty that ended in 1917. The exhibition tells the story of the quarter in the 16C and lifts the curtain on the inside of an aristocratic family over the subsequent centuries. Note in particular the dining room, the boyar’s office, and on the women’s floor, the svetlitsa, a room reserved for embroidering and sewing.
