Plyos : Michelin's recommendations

The quiet streets lined with wooden houses run all the way down to the banks of the Volga in this fishing village fortified in the 15C. Standing on the hilltop is the Cathedral of the Assumption (1699), which inspired the great Russian landscapist Isaac Levitan. He made forty paintings of Plios, where he stayed from 1888 to 1890, capturing the light of this region’s landscapes like no other. His paintings are on display in the museum devoted to his work, as well as that of other painters inspired by this enchanting setting.
