Uncover the hidden gems of St. Petersburg while surrounded by the city's architecture on this journey through Russia's past. From the Vosstania metro station, follow your guide to find the last surviving image of Stalin complete with its lavish décor, then see a station with massive doors designed to shut and transform the area into a nuclear shelter. For a mid-tour break, pay a visit to a local pub run by the Russian Knights—a national aerobatics team—and decorated with Soviet Air Force equipment. Here you can sit and enjoy some locally made traditional honey beer amid ejection seats and even an SU-27 tail fin.
Your tour through St. Petersburg continues as you head to a Soviet-style building where the Red October nuclear submarines were once designed. A monument nearby is dedicated to Russian submarines, with Rasputin's house and a small apartment that was once home to Vladimir Lenin both just a short walk away. Stroll under archways and learn about the dark appearance of St. Petersburg's well yards, where walls with windows stand only a short distance apart to create a shadowy effect. Leave the well yards behind to admire the art nouveau façade at the Baltiysky train station, then journey to the land of Oz at an area full of sculptures, paintings, and even a playground dedicated to The Wizard of Oz. The tour ends next to the Vladimirskaya metro station, where a monument to Fyodor Dostoevsky bids you farewell.
