By boat

River and canal cruises run from May to October. Commentaries in Russian.

Horse-drawn carriage

Horse- and poney-drawn carriages await you on the Palace Square, in front of the Hermitage. Don’t be tempted until you agree on a fare.

Russian banya

If the prospect of stimulating your circulation by beating yourself with birch leaves dipped in hot water appeals, you might fancy this Russian version of a sauna. Bring your own towel, soap and shampoo. Birch leaves (venik) are sold at the entrance.

Live shows

Nearly all the hotels can get tickets to shows. You can also purchase them direct from the theatre or specialised booths (teatralnaïa kassa) on Nevski prospekt, in the vicinity of Gostiny Dvor, in front of Alexandra Theatre Square and near Maïakovskaïa metro, etc. The central theatre ticket offices are at 42 Nevski in the entrance hall of the Hermitage.
