In 2006 a violent blaze heavily damaged the fine blue domes of Trinity Cathedral. It was built between 1828 and 1835 by Vassili Stassov for the Izmailov imperial regiment, since all imperial guard regiments had their own cathedrals in the days of the tsars. The recent work should restore it to its former splendour, so that it can host great celebrations as it did in the past, including Dostoevsky’s wedding and Anton Rubinstein’s funeral.
