Originally dating from the 13C, the cathedral was completely remodelled in the 15C in the Gothic style. There are also more recent features, such as the spire, which is early-20C.
The 93m-long nave is the longest in Denmark. The overall impression is of pleasing proportions and lofty elegance. Traces of 15C frescoes may be seen, together with a magnificent triptych dating from 1479, the work of Bernt Notke (1440-1509), an artist from Lübeck.
