Built in a 16th-century Dutch Renaissance style, Frederiksborg Castle sits majestically on three islands in the lush Hillerød area. Once home to the Danish monarchy and the setting for several coronations, today Frederiksborg Castle boasts an impressive collection of royal portraits and landscapes as part of the National History Museum.
As well as visiting the museum, you'll also tour the castle chapel and ornate Knights' Hall. On your way back along the coastal road, you'll pass Fredensborg Palace, the Royal Family's summer residence. Make a final stop at Kronborg Castle to visit this splendid example of Renaissance architecture. This World Heritage site is also renowned as the setting of Shakespeare'sHamlet.
