On this square you will find Vor Frue Kirke (Church of Our Lady), a neo-Classical cathedral built in 1829 based on CF Hansen's design. The interior is decorated with sculptures by Bertel Thorvaldsen. The university buildings, with busts of eminent academics in front, occupy the right-hand side of the square, overlooked by the main building, which was constructed at the same time as the cathedral. The building reserved for students, situated along Nørregade, was built a century earlier. Skt Petri Kirke with its tall 16C tower stands on the opposite side of Nørregade, at the corner of Skt Pedersstræde.
