Houses with sumptuous gates (17C, 18C) line Vestergade, while more modest houses with projecting windows run along Uldgade and Spikergade. The opulent Christ Kirke (16C) houses a rood screen gallery and an altarpiece (17C). Behind the monumental gate, a vestige of the castle, lies a museum showing Batavian earthenware and ceramics, lace and silverware. The collection of the South Jutland Fine Arts Museum (Sønderjyllands Kunstmuseum) in the same location includes contemporary art and Surrealist paintings.
