Formerly a royal hunting ground surrounding the hunting lodge Eremitageslottet (1736), the prairies and woods of Jaegersborg Dyrehave are one of the favourite places for Copenhageners to take time out – walking, picnics, horseriding, golf or even skiing. Along Klampenborgvej is Denmark's old amusement park, Dyrehavsbakken, whose origins go back to a 16C fair. With over 100 different attractions, a choice of restaurants, orchestras and dancing, its tradition of popular entertainment has been maintained.
