Maribo is a pretty village on the edge of a charming lake. It developed around a Brigittine convent, of which only the church – now a cathedral – remains. This enormous brick building overlooks streets lined with 18C artisans' and tradesmen's houses. As well as a history museum, the Kunst-og Stiftsmuseet, and a small open-air museum, the Frilandsmuseet, Maribo also boasts a major museum of Danish art, the Lolland-Falsters Kunstmuseum, with works from the 18C to the present day.
