A fine and rare example of Norwegian Romanesque architecture, this church is one of Bergen’s oldest buildings and has survived several fires. Thanks to its harmonious proportions and sumptuous furnishings, the interior has a singular charm. Note the triptych behind the altar, probably made in Lübeck in the late 15C, the Baroque pulpit, the pictures typifying the prevailing North German style of the 17C-18C, and remains of 15C frescoes.
