Mount Fløyen and Funicular Recommended Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

A funicular (Fløybanen), in operation since 1918, takes passengers up from the town centre to the top of Mount Fløyen (320m high). In everyday use by the locals, it makes several stops and the journey takes around 10min. The views over the town and islands make the trip worthwhile, as does a stroll through the woods that carpet the flanks of Mount Fløyen.

    Pros

A marvellous feature near the centre of Norway's second city. I recommend riding up and walking down and, unusually, the fare up is only half the return fare.

    Cons

    I suppose it's necessary but I find the top a bit over-commercialised.
