The Art Museum, inaugurated to coincide with the 1994 Olympics, presents a remarkable overview of Norwegian painting, from the so-called Romantic period up to works from the early 20C: Johan Christian Dahl, Hans Frederik Gude, Frits Thaulow and Christian Krohg. Two excellent pieces (Composition and Still Life) by Jacob Weidemann herald the contemporary art section, which is presented on the ground floor: note the painters Reidun Tordhol (Two Pillow Loves), Hilde Vemren (Profession Painter, a homage to Matisse and Picasso), and Odd Nestrum (portraits).
