This museum is dedicated to safeguarding rural heritage and bringing the region's architectural diversity to the fore. Created in 1904, it encompasses around 150 traditional 18C and 19C houses, which have been painstakingly reconstructed. A standing timber church was transported from Lom and reconstructed as it was in the 18C. In summer, people and animals live in the Øygarden farm and craftsmen work in the workshops. The interior museum has a superb ethnography collection of craftsmen's workshops, objects of popular art.
