Sognefjord, or Sogn Og Fjordane, is the longest of the Norwegian fjords (205km) and one of the most impressive. It cuts inland from east to west before embracing the highest mountains in Norway, the Jotunheim chain, and continues as far as the country's largest glacier, Jostedalsbreen. Going from village to village, all of which are adorned with ornate wooden stave churches (Vik, Urnes, Undredal), the road meets the arms of the Sognefjord: Lustrafjord, Aurlandsfjord… and Næerøyfjord, which features among UNESCO's World Heritage Sites.
