The Avenue : Michelin's recommendations
The Avenue begins in bucolic fashion at its north west edge, where it crosses the canal and runs through the gardens of the Kungsparken (where the Grand Theatre (1859) presents comic opera and ballet) and the Trädgardsföreningen horticultural park opened in 1842 where visitors can walk from the Palm Greenhouse to the luxurious rose gardens with its rare specimens. After that the Avenue puts on its city clothes, with international brand names. On fine days its cafés spill out onto the pavement that runs along by the 19 C buildings. The Champs Elysees Gothemburg, or the Beautiful Avenue (as people like to call it) ends up in the Götaplatsen, the culture square, surrounded by the City Theatre, the Concert Hall (where the local Philharmonic is residence, and whose excellent acoustics makes it much in demand for recordings by many big record companies), the Municipal Library close to the university, coming full circle, the Fine Arts Museum.
