The northernmost village of the Torne valley. In summer people come to fish, go canoeing or go coursing on inflatable rafts through the rapids of the Torne; in winter there are the dog sleigh rides, snowmobile safaris, cross-country skiing and Alpine skiing. The village is known for its astonishing arctic hotel, which is reconstructed each year out of more than 1 500 tons of ice. The wooden church has an altarpiece that was sculpted by Bror Hjorth in 1958 and depicts Lars Levi Laestadius, the founder of the evangelical movement in northern Scandinavia.
