The Palace Slope, which runs steeply down to the water's edge, affords fabulous views over the imposing museums situated on the other side of the channel. The royal architect Tessin the Younger built the elegant Tessinska Palatset, opposite the Royal Palace, for himself. It was intended to become part of a group of buildings, but construction was interrupted by the interminable wars of Charles XII. The Tessin Palace is today the official residence of the Governors of Stockholm County. The statue of Gustav III, by Sergel, stands next to the quay.
