The so-called Pearl of the Baltic is located 90km off the east coast of Sweden. Its particularly clement climate makes it one of the favourite holiday resorts of the Swedish. The island is also famous for growing roses and orchids. Also known as City of Roses and Ruins, Visby (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is a magnificent medieval city surrounded by ramparts. To the north, the coast of Fårö is lined with an astonishing number of raukar, curious rock formations in the cliffs created by erosion.
