The maze of streets that date back to medieval times is demarcated by the three main streets, Strandgatan, Mellangatan and Sankt Hansgatan, all running parallel to the coastline and linked together by little cobbled streets. Due to a lack of space, the shops and warehouses were constructed at street level and the houses were built down below the little streets.
