The archipelago boasts exceptionally diverse flora and the government, aware of the treasure it represents, has taken pains to protect it through pro-active policies. The botanical garden, created in 1901, contains palms, fruit trees and hibiscus planted along its cool and refreshing paths - a foretaste of the 2,000 or so species inventoried in the Seychelles.
