Piran
: Michelin's recommendations
This very pretty medieval town occupying a steep peninsula is overlooked by the ramparts of an old castle. Everything converges on the Piazza Tartini, a circular square near the harbour with a statue of violinist Giuseppe Tartini in the centre and period houses all around, including the town hall, which is decorated with the lion of St Mark. The main features of the Duomo (St George’s church) on the hills above are a Venetian bell tower and a baptistery in the form of a rotunda.
