The peaceful town of bas Veld, at the foot of the Mkonjwa mountains, now derives its wealth from forestry, agriculture and tourism. The town’s auriferous past is evoked by several old monuments, as well as a local museum dealing with the gold rush, and the story of the men who came here in the late 19C in search of nuggets.
