Bloemfontein’s historic centre has numerous buildings recalling its days as the capital of the Orange Free State. On St George Street, the Old Presidency was home to several presidents, the First Raadsaal was the seat of the first state assembly and, on President Brand Street, the neo-Classical Fourth Raadsaal, seat of the last. The district also has the building housing the paramount judicial institution, the Appeal Court.
