The rudimentary houses here – with thatched roofs and walls made of a mixture of grass and mud – are built just like those in which the poorest white inhabitants lived from the earliest settlements to the beginning of the 20C. Wheat is still ground every day in the village watermill. Nowadays all of Elim’s inhabitants are part of a community, members of the Church of Moravian Brothers, which has remained exactly the same since 1824. A journey into the past…
