Graaff-Reinet Recommended Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

Bibendum

Nestled at the foot of the Sneeuberg, at a bend in the Sundays River, Graaff-Reinet is like an oasis of vegetation. This farming town and capital of the Karoo developed thanks to the region’s merino sheep farming. It took on the name “Little Athens” due to its large number of preserved and restored historic monuments, which lend it a great deal of charm. The surrounding Camdeboo Nature Reserve, and particularly the Valley of Desolation, is worth an excursion.
