Montagu
: Michelin's recommendations
The charming village of Montagu is the southern gateway to the Karoo. Long Street and Bath Street in the town centre contain lovely Cape Dutch and Victorian homes. Joubert House, the oldest of these, dates from the mid-19C and belonged to a general of the same name who won fame during the Boer War. A visit to the house takes you back to that era, as do the local museum and its assorted objects. Don’t leave Montagu without bathing in Avalon Springs for its healing properties.
