The Tzaneen Museum contains some remarkable bric-a-brac, from pottery dating back nearly 2 000 years to Tsonga and Sotho sculptures. The multitude of objects has been collected since 1960 by curator Jurgen Witt, an ardent defender of African art. Sotho beadwork, dolls, belts, bracelets, 19C Tsonga drums and traditional Venda pottery fill every nook and cranny of this little museum bursting at the seams. The exterior is decorated with lovely statues by contemporary artists illustrating Tsonga legends.
