When to go
South Africa is in the southern hemisphere, so summer runs from November to March and winter from April to October. Avoid school holiday periods in December, January, the Easter fortnight and from late June to mid-July. Spring (October to mid-December) and autumn (March to May) are the best seasons for a trip to South Africa. If planning to go to Limpopo, Kalahari and most of the national parks, travellers would do well to book their trip during the southern winter season.
Time difference
From October to March, there is a time difference of GMT-2 between South Africa and the United Kingdom and Ireland and only GMT-1 from April to September.
Documents
EU nationals are required to hold a passport valid for 6 months after the date of return for stays of less than 3 months. Passports must be in good condition and have at least two blank pages.
