The wine-growing estate of Groot Constantia was originally part of a much larger domain, created in the late 17C by the governor of the Cape on land granted by the Dutch East Indies Company. The Manor House, built in the late 18C, is a fine example of the Cape Dutch style with its four gabled façades. Now a museum, it attests to the aristocratic Dutch lifestyle of the times. Don’t miss the splendid bas-relief by sculptor Anton Anreith over the entrance to the Cloete Cellar.
