Sterkfontein Caves, on the UNESCO World Heritage List, are one of the world’s richest palaeolithic sites. Many hominid fossils have been excavated here over the years. Among them, the skull of “Mrs Ples”, an Australopithecus Africanus now kept in the Transvaal Museum in Pretoria, and some bones nicknamed “Little foot”, are key elements in the search for the missing link.
