According to legend, a fish, Beomeo, came down from the sky and took up residence in the golden fountain located at the summit of Geumjeongsan Mountain. The temple constructed at the foot of the mountain in 678 was named after it. The various buildings of Beomeo-sa, all decorated with paintings and sculpted wood, are dispersed across a superb natural setting.
